Our mind creates thousands of thoughts every day. Sometimes we get really passionate about these ideas and thoughts; we try to turn them into reality. However, when we try something new or when we enter into new territory, our brain goes into a fight-or-flight (stress) response and tries to talk us out of these ideas. But, we can fight these thoughts and we can keep our enthusiasm intact. Here are 8 ways to do that.
1. Don’t compare yourself to others
It is good to have a role model and examples to follow. But don’t ever fall into the trap of comparing yourself to others. Follow your own path. Do your own thing. Once you start comparing yourself to others, you will find things that will discourage you and stop you from following your own path.
2. Know that failure is inevitable
You will fail. Things will not go according to plan. You will need to have the right mindset to face failure. Remember that each failure is a lesson to be learned. You need to know and be aware of the path that made you fail. If you don’t then there will be a great chance you will follow the same path that will make you fail again and again.
3. Meditate and reset
Stop and be still. Bring yourself to the present moment. Your mind will always tell you to stop and give up because it is the easy option. Once you slow down and be aware of your presence, your mind cannot dictate you and you will start dictating your mind.
4. Stop thinking what others will say
The most important thing is what you think about yourself. It doesn’t matter what others think and how they will make fun of you. Instead, close your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes. Go to your happy place. Try to connect with your younger version of yourself. What would you say to that young person? What advice would you give? Would you say to carry on or would you say to stop and give up?
5. Open up to others
Share what you think with others. Talk to them. If you don’t speak out your mind, your subconscious mind will. Your subconscious mind will give you millions of reasons to stop. But the conscious mind can give you one reason to carry on and that one reason will be enough for you to carry on.
6. Journal your thoughts
As well as talking to others, writing down your thoughts can also help you release whatever is in your mind. If you don’t release your mind you will have lots of unnecessary noises in your head to tell you to stop.
7. Be Grateful
Be grateful that you are on this journey. Be grateful for your strength to achieve something. Be grateful that you are trying, instead of doing nothing. Once you appreciate your small efforts, you will have more enthusiasm to achieve your goal.
8. Experience the success now
Sometimes the main reason we give up is that we focus on the main goal too much. The main goal looks bigger and may also look unreachable. Then we might say what is the point and give up. Instead set your small goals, where you can celebrate instantly. You can witness the success right this moment. Do you want to run a marathon? Be happy that you ran 1000 meters today. Do you want to write a book? Be happy that you wrote a paragraph today.
