In this book, Dr. Gary Chapman explains how to strengthen your relationships with your loved ones. According to Dr. Chapman, relationships break because we express ourselves in the wrong way. In his book “The 5 Love Languages“, Dr. Gary Chapman helps you to understand and speak your spouse’s love language, to help you effectively express your love and truly feel loved in return.
A Quick Look at the 5 Love Languages
1. Word of affirmation
These are the words that build the confidence of the relationship. Don’t just say you love the person, point the reason behind that love. By doing this, you will build up the other person and they will return the same love to you.
2. Quality time
Love language is not only about what you say, it is also about what you do together. It can be a simple quality conversation without any distractions. Invest some quality time together, even if the activity is something that your spouse enjoys only.
3. Receiving Gifts
Gifts symbolize the moment and your love. It is not about how valuable the gift is, it is about how significant it is and what it represents. Make notes of what your spouse enjoys. Keep a potential gift diary to keep ideas of the gifts your spouse would love and remember.
4. Act of Service
This is about taking the burdens off your spouse’s shoulder and offering a genuine helping hand. “I can do the shopping and cook the meal today”. Show that your spouse is matters. Show that you are eager to help and take the burdens off her/his shoulders.
5. Physical Touch
Thoughtful physical touches show care and love. Hugs, kisses, sexual intercourse can bring a sense of security and connection to any relationship.
